SPEEDWAVE is a high-flying, adrenaline-pumping racing game where you break the sound barrier in state-of-the-art hoverships. Challenge yourself to get to the end as fast as you can and collect as many crystals as you can, or race your friends in local multiplayer for ultimate victory!
Collect crystals to boost your speed. Steer with A/D or the Control Stick, Accelerate with W or the Right Trigger, Brake/Drift with S or the Left Trigger, Pause with Escape or Start.

This project was made for Columbia College Chicago's 2021/2022 Game Studio Capstone Project.
STORY
TURBO CITY, a human colony on the moon TITAN, is famed for the SPEEDWAY RACES, high-velocity competitions driven in state-of-the-art HOVERSHIPS. The reigning CHAMPION of these races is F.C. SKAWAX, an arrogant driver who has only ever lost once in her illustrious career, to her MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED SISTER. The KARKARIANS, a race of alien sharks who travel the galaxy in search of EXCITING RACES, have come to TITAN to compete. Unfortunately, one of their ships was shot down by CALYPSO WYGHT, feared SPACE PIRATE. The ENERGY CRYSTALS the ship was carrying have fallen all over TURBO CITY and the KARKARIANS must collect them again before they can race properly. MEANWHILE, ordinary businessman JOHN J. JOHNSON-SMITH JR. attempts to get to work at the ASTRO MINING COMPANY on time, IGNORANT of the chaos unfolding in the streets of TURBO CITY.

Great White: A balanced personal vehicle used by the Karkarians for planetary missions. Smells like fish and gasoline. Driven by Karkaro. Neutral Stats
Tachyon Diffuser: An experimental ultra-fast racing ship that struggles with tight corners. Incredibly stylish. Driven by F.C. Skawax. +Speed, -Weight, -- Handling
Buccaneer’s Bounty: A fast and heavy ship designed to smash through other racers. Its canons have thankfully been deactivated for the race. Driven by Calypso Wyght. +Speed, +Weight
Suburban Voyager: A consumer-grade hover-van designed for safety and easy driving. The chosen vehicle of space-soccer moms. Driven by John J. Johnson-Smith Jr. -Speed, +Weight, ++Handling
Swamp Buckler: A lightweight craft used by Karkarians on the swamps of their home planet, Aquarius. Ear protection is recommended. Driven by Karkaro. -Speed, -Weight
Falcon Prime: The hovership piloted by Bonny Skawax prior to her disappearance. Holds the most SPEEDWAY records for a single hovership. Driven by F.C. Skawax. +Speed, -Handling
Quantum Coupler: An ultra-fast prototype hovership stolen from the Karkarians. Held together through quantum entanglemant. Driven by Calypso Wyght. +Speed, -Weight
Comet Crusher: A jury-rigged drill used by the Astro Mining Company to collect rare minerals from the rings of Saturn. Worker safety not ensured. Driven by John J. Johnson-Smith. ++Weight, ++Handling

SPEEDWAY: A simple oval used for the Speedway Races. 4 laps. 20 Crystals.
CRASHSITE: A patch of desert outside Turbo City where the Karkarian ship crashed. 3 laps. 30 Crystals.
DOWNTOWN: The dense, crisscrossing streets of Turbo City. 2 laps. 40 Crystals.
QUARRY: An asteroid hollowed out by the Astro Mining Company. 3 laps. 30 Crystals.
COSMIC: The launching bay for Karkarian spaceships. 2 laps. 40 Crystals.
HYPER: A mysterious track seen only in dreams. 8 laps. 0 Crystals.

Really cool aesthetic and art, and great controls too. I'd love to see more sound design, like when collecting crystals, and the vehicles make no sound as well. I think that track design feels very flat on some levels, like the original Mario Kart for SNES, but if you're going for something like FZERO you should look at how they used verticality in their track design to make the game stand out from other racers
